News Amazing Flair and Talent at the Junior House Music Competition 19.06.2025
This week, we have enjoyed a spectacular Junior House Music Competition, culminating in a truly joyful final on Tuesday night.
On Monday, we held a thrilling day of competition, with 141 pupils giving a total of 150 performances. Pupils competed across a range of solo categories (Class 1 = Grades 2-4; Class 2 = Grades 5-6; and Class 3 = Grades 7+), as well as a number of duet and ensemble categories (all of which pupils had prepared, co-ordinated and rehearsed themselves). Across all competitions, the standard was enormously high, and our adjudicators Charlotte Kennedy (whose West End credits include Cosette in Les Miserables) and Jon Gibson (Director of Excellence Programmes for the Music in Secondary Schools Trust) had the most difficult of tasks to choose winners in each class.
On Tuesday, we held the Final, which featured the winners of Monday’s competitions competing against each other to become the overall winners of their categories. To an absolutely packed hall, our pupils performed with real flair and musical excellence. Our adjudicator, Mr Quintin Beer (Director of Music of St Peter’s College, Oxford) commented warmly on the tremendously high standard throughout the evening.
Many congratulations to our overall winners Izi (winner of the Classical Voice trophy), Andrea (winner of the Rock, Pop & Musical Theatre voice trophy), Jane (winner of the Class 2 trophy), Meredith (winner of the Class 3 trophy), Bella & Isla (winners of the Duet trophy) and the Year 9 A Cappella Group (winners of the Ensemble trophy). Many congratulations, too, to Maathai House, who were the overall winners of the competition with a splendid 335 points.
Above all: many, many congratulations to every performer who performed at any stage of the competition. Between our Junior and Senior House Music Competitions 2024-25 we have seen a combined total of well over 200 entries, which means that ours is one of the largest House music competitions in the country. All of our pupils have been hugely supportive of each other, demonstrating an abundance of community and House spirit whilst demonstrating wonderful resilience & musicality. We are immensely proud of them all.
