Philosophy and Religion is a thriving department which combines excellent examination results with a wide range of enrichment opportunities.  An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and well-qualified Philosophy and Religion specialist to join the school as Head of Philosophy and Religion from 1 January 2023, to lead a department of five highly experienced and enthusiastic teachers.

The department offers AQA Religious Studies GCSE, OCR Religious Studies A Level, and IB Philosophy Standard and Higher levels.  The appointed candidate must therefore have the ability to teach up to and including Key Stage 5.  The successful candidate will possess exceptional leadership skills and the ability to carry out the administrative duties associated with managing a complex academic department.  They will be a committed classroom practitioner, capable of inspiring students across the ability range.

A willingness to be involved in the department’s extra-curricular activities and the pastoral life of the school is essential, as all staff are expected to contribute to the thriving extra-curricular programme offered.

The salary will be commensurate with the post and will depend upon qualifications and experience.

Accommodation may be available for new staff in a local six-unit property.

All staff working in the School during the school day will have contact with children and will therefore be in regulated activity.  As a teaching member of staff you will be working directly with, and be responsible for, the children that you teach. You are also likely to have contact with other pupils on a regular basis which may include specific pastoral or other responsibilities for pupils whom you do not teach.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are “spent” unless they are “protected” under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
