Year 9 girls learnt how to code, programme and build their own robots in a workshop hosted by Bright Futures for the Cross Curricular Day. 'Robot Revolution' helps students understand the importance of STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and maths), their relevance to career opportunities, their importance to the UK economy and their anticipated impact on the world economy.
At the beginning of the day, the girls were split into teams to take part in some preliminary challenges. These included decoding words, discussing how robots affect our lives and a very popular neurological quiz designed to demonstrate how amazing the human brain is. The day was a huge success and the girls came away with a greater understanding of robotics, coding and engineering.
All the girls have the opportunity to develop their skills further by joining the senior robotics and programming club. Club members are currently working towards the ‘VEX IQ Challenge Next Level’ competition in February 2019.
