Our Year 8 Monologue Evening, 'The Living Wax Museum', took place this week with the entire year group performing self-penned monologues for parents and friends.
The evening is set up as a ‘promenade’ performance run by the Drama and English departments, with audience members wandering around the school and viewing samples of the 123 monologues on offer. Each girl made a sign with a ‘trigger’ question or statement that the audience member needed to speak to enable the performer to begin. There were a number of highly imaginative pieces with some involving props that audience members needed to pick up and pass the performer in order to trigger the beginning of the performance.
This year, the girls based their monologues on the Shakespearean text they are studying in English, writing their monologues in English lessons. They then rehearsed their performances in Drama lessons, with Wednesday's performance tying the whole project together.
An interesting and entertaining evening – congratulations Year 8!
