Year 8 Geography Visit Burnham Beeches

Posted: 19/10/18

Year 8 geographers visited Burnham Beeches in Buckinghamshire to investigate the characteristics of three types of woodland in autumn: beech, oak and pine.

The girls spent the day learning about the ancient woodland and used equipment to measure the height and age of trees as well as the percentage of vegetation cover. They also learnt how the forest has been managed by the City of London Corporation and the methods and practices they have put in place to protect the site for future generations.

At a time when we hear that children are spending less and less time outdoors, it was wonderful to have the girls out exploring nature.
