Year 8 Amazon App Design Bootcamp

Posted: 23/11/18

Thirteen Year 8 students attended an App Design Bootcamp at the London HQ of Amazon Web Services (AWS) on Thursday.  The girls were selected on the basis of their app ideas following an assembly introducing the ‘AWS Get IT’ competition to the whole of Year 8 – a competition aimed at inspiring more girls to get involved in Technology.

It was an intensive, but highly interactive day exploring all aspects of app design and development in workshops led by AWS experts.  They drove home the importance of creativity, innovation and ‘failing forwards’ in generating app ideas and the girls learnt about the processes of storyboarding and flowcharting the design as well as the technologies that could be integrated into their apps.  Finally, there was a very practical session working on presentation skills which would be key when the girls come to presenting their ideas.

There is much to follow-up on between now and April when they need to submit their polished ideas and entries to the competition.
