News Women in STEM Professional Networking Event 15.11.2018

Over 30 alumnae and Godolphin and Latymer Sixth Form students gathered at the Royal Academy of Engineering to listen to guest speaker and Old Dolphin, Dr Hayaatun Sillem, talk about women in STEM for the first in our new series of professional networking events.

Dr Sillem – the first woman appointed Chief Executive of the Academy – focused her presentation on how women can best prepare themselves to seize the opportunities arising from a changing workplace. She also spoke passionately about reframing the discussion on diversity in the workforce, to focus on the more positive concept of inclusion.

Amongst her many other insights was the notion that education never ends and that people should embrace the opportunity to upgrade and learn new skills as needed. Her talk was followed by a question and answer period during which students and Old Dolphins alike expanded on the topics she raised.

Working in conjunction with the Old Dolphins’ Association, the Alumnae Relations team plans to deliver a series of events that will bring the Godolphin and Latymer community together to meet in a professional context, explore the issues women face throughout their careers, and ultimately offer each other guidance and support.
