Students given a fantastic insight into the working life of a psychiatrist

Posted: 27/02/17

We were given a fantastic insight into the working life of a psychiatrist as part of the Careers in Science series. The talk by Dr Sophie Tomlin covered her journey from medical school to specialising in psychiatry, and highlighted the diversity of the field. Dr Tomlin educated us on the nature of her role as a junior doctor, including visiting A and E patients with mental health disorders, assessing people for bariatric surgery and working in a multidisciplinary team. The talk enlightened us on what a career in medicine or psychology might entail, and where studying science at school and university could take us.
