News Lower Sixth Biologists at Amersham Field Studies Centre 28.06.2019

Lower Sixth Biology students assembled bright and early on Thursday morning ready to board the bus to the Field Studies Centre in Amersham. The girls were briefed on the ecology tasks they would be conducting for the day and were out in the ‘field’ comparing the species diversity between coppiced and thinned woodlands. Temperature probes, lux metres, soil pH kits, tape measures and of course quadrats were used to analyse the various biotic and abiotic factors in the different ecosystems.

The girls then did a belt transect to determine the distribution of organisms in the area and headed to the classroom to analyse the data they had gathered for a Spearman Rank Correlation before boarding the bus back to Hammersmith.
