The school has been considering the theme of identity and encouraged both students and staff to investigate what books mean to them for Literature Week 2018.
A number of events have run over this special week, such as Book Speed Dating for Year 10, the House Literature Quiz, Year 7 Mystery of the Golden Pen, Summer Reading, Literary Cake Sale, and two authors have visited. Juno Dawson was a huge hit with the Lower Sixth and Years 9 and 10 talking about identity and her books and Irene Brignull wowed Years 7 and 8 with her talk about writing books and screenplays for popular films. For House Points, students could “spot the teacher” wearing coloured stickers, to engage them about their book choices. A Summer Readathon will be launched for the holidays.
Reading for pleasure can improve mental self-imagery, increase empathy and strengthen your sense of self, and Literature Week 2018 has aimed to encouraged these ideas within girls.
