IB Theory of Knowledge Salon

Posted: 01/11/17

On Wednesday the 1st November the Theory of Knowledge Team hosted an evening salon for parents with the theme of Halloween. As well as highlighting some of the key aspects of the ToK course (part of the IB Diploma Programme), there were three presentations from members of staff aiming to get the attendees actively engaging with the subject and ‘do’ some ToK. There was a great variety of thoughts and ideas being explored, all in a ToK context; from the origins of some Halloween traditions, such as apple-bobbing, to the scientific evidence for the existence (or non-existence) of ghosts; even questions about how and why the dead are romanticised in modern media were investigated, in that case specifically looking at vampires. The parents who attended engaged wonderfully with the concepts presented to them and discussed all the ideas with a focus on the ToK ‘Ways of Knowing’.
