News Higher Education Preparation Programme 05.06.2020

Following the success of the HEPP sessions at the beginning of May, the Lower Sixth had another full timetable of personal statement writing workshops, UCAS submission advice and work on their EPQ and EE projects.

Throughout the week, Ms Gibbs ran UCAS application sessions and there were opportunities for girls to work on their Extended Essay and Extended Project Qualifications. Dr Woodberry hosted a writing session for students applying to universities that required them to take Thinking Skills Assessment essay, and Mrs Armstrong provided assistance for girls in writing their personal statements.  There were daily subject-specific discussions with subject teachers – with everything from Sports Science to Philosophy – and for those interested in studying Law, we were fortunate enough to have First Class Law graduate and tutor, Kate MacKenzie, who shared her knowledge on how to prepare for the LNAT (Law National Aptitude Test). The week also offered OxCam drop-in sessions with Godolphin’s Oxbridge Coordinator, Mr Higgins, and Mrs Antebi ran meetings for girls interested in studying in the US and Canada and advice for writing the US College Supplemental College Application Essays.

Friday afternoon gave our aspiring medics, dentists and vets a chance to reconnect with Old Dolphins studying at the likes of Nottingham Medical School, Cambridge, and Newcastle University. They offered invaluable advice on preparing for their university interviews, alternative routes to securing a place at medical school and how best to balance their Upper Sixth commitments when they reach their final year at Godolphin.

UCAS forms are now populated, virtual open days signed up for and personal statements are underway ready to begin to turn aspirations into reality.
