Last Friday we welcomed Andy Slaughter, Labour MP for Hammersmith and Fulham, who took time out of his busy schedule to talk to members of the Politics Society.
The former Shadow Justice Minster and former Shadow Minister for Housing fielded questions from students of all ages who demonstrated an impressive knowledge of the current political climate and the main issues our country faces.
Mr Slaughter talked candidly on a variety of different subjects which, of course, included discussion on the “constitutional crisis” that is Brexit, climate change, his thoughts on the newly-formed Change UK, anti-semitism within the Labour Party, his thoughts on the Labour leadership, and how it was “about time” that Labour elected a female leader.
The girls were really engaged in the content and were grateful for Mr Slaughter’s forthrightness and honesty. Sadly, afternoon lessons had to bring the questions to an end, but we no doubt will be welcoming him back in the near future (if he can spare us the time) for further fascinating insight into modern-day politics.
