On Sunday 7 May the J14 and J15 squads travelled to Eton Dorney to compete at the Ball Cup South. Division One saw two WJ14 quads race in the heats. One crew won their heat, and the other finished in agonizing fourth, just missing out on the final as the fastest non-qualifier. In the final our crew lay down a dominant performance, and won gold comfortably (winning crew pictured with medals). In Division Two, two of our J15s combined to race in the J18 doubles. With a tough row against older competitors, our girls did well to make the six boat final, and finish in a creditable fourth place. In the blue riband event of the day, the Ball Cup Girls’ Fours, G&LBC had two J15 crews competing. In an exciting race, one of our crews gained a silver medal, and the other finished less than a second off the bronze medal position. These were fantastic performances from both crews against competition up to three year’s older. In Division Three, a WJ15 quad comfortably won their heat, and were given the favoured lane 3 for the final. The girls did not disappoint, and led the race from the start, winning the final by over a length, and gaining a gold medal. This was a very successful day for our J14 and J15s squads, who can be proud of their performances, and medals won.
