A writing competition for Year 9 Classics

Posted: 24/02/17

On 26 January 2017 classicist and author Emily Hauser came to speak to Year 9 about the Trojan War and revealed to them the tragic story of Cassandra. A princess of Troy, Cassandra was cursed by the god Apollo to know the future but for no one to believe her. The girls embarked on a competition to write a piece of creative writing based on Cassandra’s dilemma. Entrants included poems, diary accounts, letters and even psychiatric reports! The quality of the work produced by all the girls was very impressed and showed a genuine engagement with this ancient myth. Emily Hauser judged the finalists and the winning pieces were written by Stella Champeaux and Eden Poynton. Here are their pieces.
