On Tuesday, the annual Year 11 Model United Nations conference was held in the Bishop Centre.
The girls were divided into committees made up of two to three delegates. Their aim was to agree on practical solutions to the world’s most important questions through constructive and in depth discussions with other nations. Every committee was responsible for a specific topic such as sustainable development or anti-terrorism policies and the topics were discussed and debated clause by clause in order to form a common resolution. The girls then gathered in the General Assembly where they had to present solutions to a crisis scenario where the international hacktavist group 'Anonymous' had hacked into the computers of all major oil companies, causing oil production to plummet.
Finally, the General Assembly concluded with the distribution of 'Best Delegate' and 'Highly Commended Delegate' certificates, with the girls having enjoyed a morning of diplomacy, cooperation, and debating.
