We aim to work in close partnership with parents to enable the girls in our care to reach their full potential academically and personally. Close contact and cooperation with parents is highly prized in this respect. We seek to communicate concerns and praise proactively in order to provide the best possible understanding and encouragement to aid the growth of the individual. We appreciate that the home context is an important part of the picture of a child’s whole development and aim to be as supportive as possible when difficulties arise.
The support of parents is vital in reinforcing the sense of community within the school and this support is manifested in many different ways:
- In a common respect for the values and high expectations of the school.
- In encouraging the girls to be the best they can be.
- In the support needed for active participation in the wider life of the school.
- Volunteering support and expertise (Mock interviews, careers advice, sixth form lectures, providing work experience opportunities).
- Attending concerts, shows and fixtures.
- Being interested in the life of the school and giving constructive feedback (eg via the Parent, Teacher, Friends Association).
- Being involved in committees for events and fundraising (PTFA).
- Being involved in the strategic direction of the school as governors.
Though there must be fundamental differences between parents’ experiences of their relationships with their children’s primary and secondary schools as girls mature and become more independent: we seek to encourage a friendly and open atmosphere with many events which have the aim of enabling parents to feel involved in the life of the school and their daughter’s progress. There are many occasions for parents to interact with staff both formally at parents evenings and curriculum information events and informally at other times like the Christmas Bazaar, the intervals of concerts and plays or PTFA receptions. We hope that all parents feel welcome and valued.
