IB Years 12/13

The economics program contributes to internationalism in the IB by encouraging candidates and teachers to appreciate the interdependence of countries and to understand the implications of the development of an open international economy. The course aims to develop a critical awareness of the global economy and of its economic and cultural implications. A special attention is given to the problems of economic development.

The International Baccalaureate syllabus is a two-year program with a final examination worth 80% (75% at Standard Level) of the final grade and with 20% (25% Standard Level) of the final grade based upon an Economics Portfolio that is constructed throughout the course.

The Portfolio consists of four short 'commentaries', spread over the two years, and assessed internally (contributing 20% of the total marks available at Higher Level and 25% at Standard Level). The commentaries will be based on articles that students will have collected from newspapers or the Internet, revealing how the candidate has recognised the links between study of the subject and real world situations. There is plenty of choice as to what students can elect to put into their portfolio of commentaries.
