We offer Theatre Arts as part of the International Baccalaureate. The course aims to extend candidates' understanding of world theatre from an international perspective. Theatre Arts incorporates several arts: the Actor's art, the Playwright's art, the Director's art, and the Designer's art.
Students are encouraged to develop the organisational and technical skills needed to express themselves creatively in theatre. The course emphasises the importance of working individually and as a member of an ensemble.
The course celebrates theatre from different cultures from around the world. Topics we have studied include: Japanese Kabuki and Noh Theatre, Kathakali, Commedia dell'Arte, Greek Drama, Theatre of the Absurd, Spanish Golden Age Theatre, Beijing Opera, and Medieval Drama.
As part of both the IB and A-level courses, girls have the opportunity to attend several theatrical productions in London each year. We make frequent visits to theatres such as The National Theatre, The Donmar Warehouse, The Old Vic, The Barbican, The Riverside Studios and The Lyric.
