IB Visual Arts
The course is designed to develop a meaningful understanding of the processes of making art. Girls are encouraged to develop methods of research and investigation through observation and analysis.
Girls are able to set their own themes and develop their own ideas using a wide range of media. During the first term formal elements such as line, shape, pattern, texture, colour and tone are explored through specialist discipline areas such as drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, mixed-media, 3 dimensional form and ceramics.
The course has two components, studio work and the research workbook. The studio work is practical and offers opportunities to explore and experiment with visual elements based on personal research. During the two year course two more research workbooks will be produced as a personal record of a pupil’s investigation. They will contain visual source material as well as written evaluation and analysis. These personal workbooks should also document well observed studies, demonstrate the development of ideas, show experimentation through materials and processes, and highlight research into the work of others.
