The Drama Department offers an exciting range of dramatic and theatrical experiences for all girls. The school has a fully-equipped and versatile Drama Studio. Drama is taught to the UIII, LIV and UIV within the curriculum. In the Middle School, Drama is offered as part of the LV Module. In the Sixth Form, girls have the option to take AS/A-level Drama and Theatre Studies or IB Theatre Arts.
Spring 2009 saw the opening of our newly converted performance space, The Bishop Centre, previously St. John’s Church, accommodating up to 340 seats for theatrical performances. The Bishop Centre is equipped with state of the art lighting and sound equipment, and offers a wide variety of staging possibilities. This new venue will be used for extra-curricular productions and musicals, as well as providing A-level and IB students with an exciting alternative to the studio for examined performances.
The department focus is on all aspects of theatre, and we encourage girls to develop skills in both performance and technical theatre. In all of our productions we train girls to use our sound and lighting equipment, and girls are able take on roles such as Stage Manager, Designer, Director, Playwright as well as Actor.
