Classics at the Godolphin and Latymer School
We are unusual at the Godolphin and Latymer School in offering the full range of classical courses – Latin, Greek, Classical Civilisation and Ancient History – and valuing them equally as alternative routes to the study of the Greeks and Romans.
Staff are highly qualified and offer a variety of specialisms. All are involved in the wider world of Classics.
All girls are introduced to the Latin language and to Roman history and culture. Thereafter, they may choose to extend their studies to GCSE, A levels or the IB.
Whether girls choose to study the ancient languages to the highest level or access classical literature, history and culture through translations, our aim is to foster an interest in the Greeks and Romans and an appreciation of their relevance to modern Europe in such a way as to engender a life-long love of the Classics.
A rich programme of extra-curricular events enables girls, parents and members of the local community to participate in a variety of ways. The school is proud to have initiated and brought to a successful outcome the campaign in May 2007 to save the Ancient History A level.
