The Art and Design Department is an integral part of the whole school. Evidence of the students’ creative achievements and talents take pride of place, and examples can regularly be viewed in the corridors and offices in all parts of the school.
The achievements of our examination year groups are celebrated in the outstanding annual GCSE, AS, A2 and IB level exhibitions. All students are given opportunities to express their individual responses in activities from the now well established and highly professional department calendar to the production of school christmas cards.
As a department we offer innovative teaching that allows for strong individual creativity while also providing core skills to girls of all years and abilities. With that in mind, girls are given freedom of imagination and, despite a strong focus on technical aptitude, we will always endeavour to accommodate each pupil’s individuality and creative preference.
Our belief in providing each pupil with the opportunity to learn new skills and make the most of all creative opportunities is supported by a particularly well resourced department. Students have access to two studio spaces, two classrooms, a dark room, as well as a purpose built ceramics studio. Within these facilities we are able to teach an extensive range of specialist processes such as drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, mixed-media, black and white photographic processing, digital manipulation using photoshop CSI and ceramics.
The Art and Design Department is lively and forward thinking and we are rightly proud of our students’ achievements at all levels of the school.
