AS A2 Fine Art
The AS and A2 Level courses are an exciting continuation of the opportunities offered at GCSE. The subject is taught in designated studios, and utilises a specialist ceramic studio and a fully equipped darkroom.
The Fine Art Specification focuses mainly on the following specialist areas: drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking and sculpture. A broad range of digital and black and white photographic processes are used as a tool for exploring and collecting visual information in preparatory studies, but not at the expense of working from primary sources.
Preliminary studies play a vital role in the development of every unit; most of the course objectives which include recording observational studies, developing and extending ideas, and exploring materials are fulfilled in the sketchbooks. Visual imagery is analysed and evaluated with critical text using specialist art vocabulary, and making connections with the work of others. Each unit of study will culminate in an out-of-book, realised piece.
